Let’s raise a glass to toast the 2024 Olympic Games. I confess I am an unabashed Francophile ~ always have been. From the Opening Ceremony spectacle ~ Lady Gaga, Celine Dion, Snoop Dog! and all those glamorous artful passions that celebrated all things French Culture ~ Fashion, Literature, Cinèma, Food and of course, Drink, it’s been quite the summer show. And when I stop to think of French libations, Champagne and Wine naturally come to mind first. If your herbs are too sassy, do you know how to slap them? Seriously, a good whack releases or activates the aroma in an herb. I love shadows. I am enchanted by the silhouettes and shapes brought about the interplay of light and darkness to create outlines of shade: Shadow Art. It was so popular years ago ~ I even “borrowed” my girlfriend’s two children to have their profile portraits or “shadow portraits” rendered to gift her. Now, I am just so attracted to that ephemeral, artful shade that creates a unique, fleeting outline, illustration or pattern. And to the beauty of the Shade Garden.
One could be forgiven for thinking that an American patriotic tablescape for Memorial Day or Independence Day is pretty easy or simple to do. After all, the red, white, and blue colors are a given. And if you wanted to “slip in” a Bastille Day celebration – (that also marks my wedding anniversary. Don’t start – I’ve heard all the related jokes for years!) – this too totally works for an easy transition to mid-July.
